Laser uses brief pulses of laser light to shut down veins.
There are two effective treatment options for leg thread veins: Laser or Microsclerotherapy.
Laser uses brief pulses of laser light to shut down veins.
Microsclerotherapy involves the injection of a solution into the vein that results in microscopic damage to the cells causing the vein to close.

Our patients return to us year after year for natural, balanced results. Every review reflects our commitment to precision, safety and a personalised approach to aesthetic care.
Laser treatment is a safe, effective way to banish thread veins. The light from the laser is directed at the veins causing them to heat up very quickly. This heat causes the vein to break down and collapse, gardually fading away.
Microsclerotherapy is most effective in the treatment of largers veins or spider veins on the legs, and involves the injection of a solution, or ‘sclerosant’, with a very fine needle into the problem blood vessel. The injected solution causes the vein to close and fade away.

Micro-sclerotherapy is considered the ‘Gold Standard’ treatment for leg thread veins and spider veins. It is the technique of injecting thread or spider veins with a special substance known as a “sclerosant” that causes swelling in the vein’s wall. If the vein is small enough, the swelling will destroy the vein over several weeks, making it much less noticeable or even invisible.
Dr Joney De Souza is a Master trainer in this procedure and trains other Medical Doctors to carry out this treatment.
The appearance of tiny red or purple veins in the skin are commonly know as thread veins or spider veins. Many people who have these feel less confident about wearing shorts or summer clothing which expose their legs, and they often ‘cover up’ because of this. The reason why people develop thread veins is not fully understood but the known and most important causes include heredity, pregnancy, hormones and minor injuries. Microsclerotherapy can be used to treat these unsightly veins so that you can return to wearing the clothes you feel confident in.
Dr Joney De Souza will take your medical history and assess your suitability for Microsclerotherapy treatment at your free consultation.
Microsclerotherapy involves injecting a specialised sclerosant solution directly into small veins. This causes the vein walls to collapse and stick together so the vein is gradually absorbed and fades over time.
Microsclerotherapy is ideal for thread veins (telangiectasia) and reticular veins on the legs. It is not designed for varicose veins, which may require a different vascular procedure.
Most patients need 1–3 sessions per area. The number depends on the size and density of the thread veins. Larger or darker clusters may require additional sessions for optimal results.
The treatment is generally very well tolerated. You may feel a slight sting or mild warmth during the injections, but the needles used are very fine, and the discomfort is minimal and short-lived.
There is minimal downtime. You can walk immediately after treatment and return to normal activities the same day. Compression stockings may be recommended for a few days to enhance results and reduce swelling.
Results begin to develop after 3–6 weeks, with full improvement visible after 8–12 weeks as the treated veins gradually fade.
There is usually very little discomfort during Microsclerotherapy injections due to the size of the needle and the superficial injection technique.
Dr Joney will inject sclerosing agent into the thread veins using a very fine needle. The solution has an irritant effect on the lining of the veins causing the wall of the veins to stick together. Blood stops flowing through the veins, which are then absorbed by the body’s natural defence mechanism over a period of time. The blood is then directed back to the deeper venous system.
Following Microsclerotherapy injections, a swab may be taped over the treated area, and often a special bandage and compression stocking is applied which may be worn for several days to help assist shrinkage of the thread veins.
A single blood vessel may have to be injected more than once, depending on its size. Repeat injection sessions can be scheduled one week later, but it is better to wait one month between treatments. In practice, most patients require between 2 and 6 treatments at 4 to 8 week intervals.
It is common for around 75 percent or more of your veins to vanish, but you should be aware that 100 percent disappearance of all veins is rare.
The whole treatment should usually take no longer than half an hour or so – depending on how many veins require treatment. You can normally drive immediately and go about your usual daily activities following this treatment.
